The Beginning of the Trail

My goal is to teach kids about nature, how to take care of it, how to maintain nature and to show kids the fun in nature.

There are many reasons why I want to help kids learn more about nature but I have two main reasons. The first reason is because I love nature. I grew up going fishing, camping, hiking, hunting and catching bugs but most kids in this era do not do any of those thing. So I want to help kids learn about and experience nature. The second reason is kids do not get out as much as they did a couple of years ago. Today most kids own one or more of these products: computer, Xbox console, Playstation console, iPhone, iPad, iPod, or a portable video game. I want kids to go explore nature, learn about nature, respect it and most importantly enjoy nature.

I plan on working with other people in an organization called Spring Rivers Foundation. They have two main goals which I have in common with them. The first and probably the most important are helping improve and monitor nature. The second is to help educate people of our area and the natural environment through outdoor education and environmental projects. So I will probably be working with other people in the foundation. This foundation is the perfect place for me to complete my goal because I get to help people teach people about nature. Not only that but I might get to help better the environment.

I am nervous because there might be some problems along the way. My first worry is about someone getting hurt during some of the outdoor projects. I know that does not happen that often but it is a possibility. If someone is hurt I will help in any way possible. Another worry is teaching people something that is not correct and I worry I will not know what to say. So to keep that from happening I will study up on the subject as much as I can. Sometimes I get stage fright so I’m hoping that working with the foundation will help get rid of my stage fright.

To conclude my main goal is to get kids out more and teach them about nature, to complete my goal I am planning on working with the Spring River Foundation, and last my main two fears about doing this are someone getting hurt and freezing up while teaching to people. I cannot wait to start on this project.

  2. Wow this is an amazing goal. I hate seeing kids sit on electronics all day doing nothing active. I think every kid should get out in the fresh air more. I can't wait to see as you further your project. Thank you for helping kids to enjoy nature.

  4. I agree with you completely when you talked about kids theses days are just sucked into technology, and I think one of the main reasons why is because they believe that there's nothing to do in Redding. In doing this project you're showing that there is more to life than social media(:

    1. That's a good point Chrissy; I'm always hearing kids say that there is nothing to do here. Look around you! This place is beautiful. Ryan's project is sure to make a difference in their lives.
